Israel is committing war crimes against Palestinians in contravention with international laws, the Maldives has declared.
Speaking at the Extraordinary meeting of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held on Wednesday, State Minister of the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Khaleel condemned the continuous Israeli attacks on Palestinians, including children. He stated that Israel's actions are in violation of international laws, UN Security Council resolutions, and OIC resolutions.
He raised concerns that Israel's inhuman attacks could lead to instability in the Middle East. He said that the only path to regional stability would be the establishment of a sovereign and independent State of Palestine based on the pre-1967 borders.
He called for stronger support to open humanitarian corridors facilitating the delivery of food, medicine and other basic necessities to Gaza.
Khaleel highlighted the close ties between Palestine and the Maldives, and assured the support of Maldives for Palestine will remain steadfast within the framework of international law.
He declared that the Maldivian people grieve for the plight of Palestinians, and the Maldives government will persistently advocate for a permanent resolution to the conflict.
Maldives' OIC Permanent Representative and Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Mohamed Khaleel and First Secretary at the Maldives' Consulate in Jedda, Mohamed Rameez also attended this meeting.
The Maldives has been an OIC member since 1976.
To date, over 3000 Palestinians have been killed in the Israeli attacks.
