President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged his full support, along with the government's, for Malé City Council under his administration.

Dr. Muizzu met with the members of Malé City Council on Saturday evening, October 14, at Dharubaaruge, where the president-elect commended the authority's work over the last two and a half years, despite facing challenges.

Dr. Muizzu said the authority's works would have better improved as of now had it not faced the challenges.

"The roads would have been redeveloped. Several parking structures would have been established, and multiple projects would have been completed," Dr. Muizzu said.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Muizzu said that the city council's projects would have completed accordingly if the government had provided its support.

He assured proper decentralized governance under his administration, and added that every council authority will have its respective powers to ensure the works they carry out are executed accordingly.

"In the upcoming days, better services will be provided compared to the last two and half years. We are ready to provide assistance, and I give assurance for that," Dr. Muizzu said.

Since Dr. Muizzu was elected as the Malé City Mayor, the city council and the government clashed on multiple occasions. The council authority had alleged that the government obstructed its operations.
