President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has called for an immediate end to the illegal occupation of Palestine.

The president-elect posted on X that Israel should return the lands forcefully seized from Palestinians.

Dr. Muizzu's statement follows Israel's declaration of war against Palestine after attacks were launched by Hamas.

In his statement Dr. Muizzu said Israel should recognize Palestine as an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital within 1967 borders and allow the immediate return of refugees.

Hamas fronted multiple attacks on Israel on Saturday, October 7, and took control of several areas previously under Israeli forces.

Reports state that the death toll in Israel has surpassed 700 due to the attacks. Hamas also claimed to have taken multiple Israeli soldiers hostage.

Israel's counterattacks through shelling have resulted in the deaths of over 400 Palestinians as well.

Following Hamas' attacks, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared war against Palestine.
