President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has met with the Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives, Wang Lixin.

The Ambassador met with Dr. Muizzu at Maafannu Dhimyath where the president-elect's secretariat is currently operated.

Vice president-elect Hussain Mohamed Latheef had also accompanied Dr. Muizzu at the meeting.

Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) posted on X that Ambassador Lixin discussed further strengthening the friendly relationship between the Maldives and China with the president-elect.

While the Chinese Ambassador has met Dr. Muizzu, the Asian giant's President Xi Jinping had congratulated him for his recent presidential election victory.

In his message on X via the Ambassador, president Xi promised mutual trust and cooperation. He also promised China will remain an important partner in Maldives' development.

The Sinamalé Bridge developed when Dr. Muizzu was the Minister of Housing, was executed through a grant from the Chinese government.

In addition to this, the Hiyaa housing towers in Hulhumalé 2 were developed through a Chinese grant.

Before he met with the Chinese Ambassador, Dr. Muizzu had met with the UK Ambassador to the Maldives Caron Röhsler.

The president-elect pledged to maintain close ties with all foreign allies, ensuring strong diplomatic relations as long as these relationships do not compromise Maldivian independence.

Dr. Muizzu is a strong advocate on repatriating the Indian soldiers from the Maldives. He previously announced that his first order of business after assuming office would be to repatriate the soldiers.

However, he said that the soldiers will be sent off in accordance to diplomatic proceedings.
