Malé City Mayor and presidential candidate of People’s National Congress (PNC) and Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, has won the majority vote, securing the title as the next President of Maldives.

From the 586 ballot boxes set up across the Maldives, Dr. Muizzu has secured 100,139 votes from 487 counted boxes. Incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih received 85,356 votes. This marks a difference of over 15,000 votes in favor of Dr. Muizzu.

From the 282,804 eligible voters, 85 percent exercised their right to vote, totaling approximately 240,000 citizens.

Based on the available data and past elections, it is unlikely that president Solih will be able to secure a victory by collecting more votes already obtained by Dr. Muizzu. President Solih would need to consistently receive more than 50 percent of the remaining uncounted votes.

Dr. Muizz won the first round of presidential elections held on September 9, leading over President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih who came in second. In the first round, Dr. Muizzu secured 101,635 votes, while President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih received 86,161 votes. This too was a margin of 15,474 votes.
