Spouse of Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, Sajidha Mohamed has responded to allegations placed on the opposition candidate over their maid's suicide.

An expat maid working at the residence for Dr. Muizzu and his wife had committed suicide by hanging in 2012. He was the then Minister of Housing.

Responding to allegations by members of his presidential race opponent's team, Dr. Muizzu's wife claimed that her husband never looked at another woman with ill intention. She further said that the rumors and allegations against him were baseless.

"Allegations of murder and rape. Even from looking at our society, there should be some consideration to the level of spreading fallacies. Taking this to such an extent is extremely saddening," Sajidha said during a rally at Dhaalu atoll Meedhoo.

She also said that the expat maid was living in their residency with his husband, and the cause of her death is clear from police investigative reports.

"It really is saddening when they spread such rumors to tarnish someone's reputation," Sajidha added.

Besides this, Sajidha responded to allegations related to the opposition candidate's step-mother.

She highlighted that Dr. Muizzu wished against speaking about it since it was a family matter, but the current situation had demanded her to clarify doubts.

Sajidha said that following his father's demise, Dr. Muizzu's step-mother wished proprietorship of the couple's house in Sri Lanka and the savings in the Bank of Ceylon accounts.

"Dad had guesthouses in Kandy and Colombo. There is one palatial residence of his [in Lanka] as well. Besides this, Muizzu spent MVR 800,000 from his own pockets to construct an additional room on the terrace [of the residence]," Sajidha added.
