President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has mentioned that during his island visits across the Maldives, from Haa Alif atoll Thuraakunu to Addu City, as part of his presidential campaign for a second term, he observed that everyone had joined the "Ufaaveri, Amaan Raajje" boat. He also said that his competitors had already concluded their campaigns and returned home at this critical juncture.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Faafu atoll, President Solih reiterated that this election has finished in "one round". He requested people of Faafu atoll Bileddhoo and Feeali to join in this success.
"We have the strength. We have the courage. We have the willingness. We came to this island after staying in Addu last night. You also do not have to sleep yet and vote tomorrow. Anything else we do, will come after that."
President Solih responded to his rivals who claimed that he would not be able to contest due to being on medication.
The President said the people can feel the difference between the last five years and the previous five years. He said the people did not want to go back to the injustices of the past. The President highlighted that the people voted for him in 2018 to change these injustices and bring about peace and stability as well as to establish essential services.
"I appeal to all of you to cast your vote wisely tomorrow." -- President.
"I am working to provide essential services without discrimination, and without excluding any island" said president Solih.
According to the president his rivals were spreading blatant lies in the name of nationalism, religion and independence. He said those words did not have any truth in them, and were misleading.
The President said that the greatest efforts for independence were made during the last five years.
"One thing that the rivals are talking about is independence. Nationalism. That we are in debt. These are all lies." -- President.
"What needs to be done to sustain independence is not to come out with swords and guns, not to surround ourselves with a wall. We need to build close, trustworthy relationships with other countries. We are establishing such relationships with all the countries in the world."
According to the President this close relationship has been established with more than 180 countries. He said the Maldivian passport is the most powerful passport in this region.
President Solih said that the Constitution had given a very important responsibility to the people. He asked all to fulfill this responsibility faithfully.
"If you misuse the power granted to you by the Constitution, the people and the country will suffer and face much difficulty," president Solih said.
"Therefore I appeal to all of you to cast your vote with wisdom tomorrow."
