Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People’s National Congress (PNC) coalition’s presidential candidate and Malé City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has denied rumors that the coalition's government had made a decision to impose a toll fee for the bridge.

Several posts on social media accused Dr. Muizzu would reinstate the former President Abdulla Yameen’s policy to charge a bridge toll from travelers across Sinamalé Bridge.

“Spreading baseless lies is an irresponsible, uncivilized act,” Dr. Muizzu denied the rumors.

Although Yameen’s administration had earlier decided to charge a toll fee from travelers, it was never implemented.

Dr. Muizzu, who served as the minister of housing in 2016 said that the government contracted the Sinamalé Bridge developer to design a toll system for the brigde. However, the policy was never brought up during the 2018 presidential election.
