Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People’s National Congress (PNC) candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu pledges development of 6,000 tourist beds under his ‘Asseyri Tourism’ initiative in Addu City.

In addition to the large-scale tourism project, Dr. Muizzu also pledged the development of a bridge connecting Hulhumeedhoo and Hithadhoo.

Dr. Muizzu announced his plans for the southernmost city of Maldives at the campaign rally held in Addu on Monday evening, August 21.

One of the major initiatives outlined by Dr. Muizzu for Addu City is the bridge project aimed at linking Hithadhoo mainland with Hulhumeedhoo, currently separated and approximately a 10-minute journey apart by sea transfer. The pledge was earlier made by former president Abdulla Yameen, who sought re-election in 2018

“God willing, we will launch the bridge project under our government,” Dr. Muizzu said.

The PPM/PNC said that the bridge project would significantly enhance tourism in the region. Following the commitment to the Hithadhoo-Hulhumeedhoo bridge, he also introduced the 'Asseyri Tourism' initiative as part of his pledges.

The tourism initiative includes developing tourist properties in the area with a combined bed capacity of 6,000. Dr. Muizzu claimed the initiative will create 10,000 additional jobs in the hospitality industry. He further said that the culmination of the project will include the development of a regional seaplane hub in Addu.

Dr. Muizzu said that his main focus for Addu City, much like Malé region, would be to address housing difficulties. He pledged to develop the existing Addu Hospital and improve its services.
