President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced that the government will commence issuing plots to residents of Malé City starting Tuesday, August 15.
While speaking to the locals of Kudafari in Noonu Atoll during his campaign tour, President Solih emphasized that affordable housing is a necessary requirement for the public. He highlighted the housing challenges faced by citizens of Malé region.
President Solih said that a primary focus of the current administration is to alleviate the housing challenges in the Malé region. He announced that eligible applicants will commence receiving plots beginning Tuesday.
"The plan is to begin issuing plots from the 15th of [August], and you will see [us] allocating plots to families every day," President Solih said.
The government has announced it will allocate 2,200 plots from Hulhumalé 2, 2,000 plots from Gulhifalhu, and an additional 2,000 plots following the reclamation of Giraavaru lagoon. Despite the initial announcement of issuing 5,000 plots, President Solih later confirmed that plots will be awarded to all eligible applicants.
Speaking in this regard, President Solih assured that the housing challenges encountered by Kudafari residents would also be effectively addressed. He pledged to launch a row-house initiative during his second term, aimed at resolving housing issues for over 200 families on the island. Moreover, he outlined that individuals wishing to independently undertake home development would have the opportunity to secure housing loans at an interest rate of six percent or lower.

President Solih said that the current administration has successfully provided fundamental amenities to all residential islands. He emphasized that the crucial next step demands progress, asserting that only his administration had the experience and capacity to effectively deliver the pledges made.
"Our coalition has the most experienced leadership, which understands the best interests of the public. I have dedicated 30 continuous years to serving the people. Our coalition understands the requirements of the people," he said.
President Solih further asserted that neither he nor the coalition harbors any intention of resorting to propaganda for the purpose of seeking re-election. Instead, their primary objective remains to ensure the prosperity and well-being of the people.
"Siyam [MDA leader] does not seek a lagoon, he remains resolute. Within this coalition, there is no individual who aspires for an island, a lagoon, or is seeking loan expiation by the government. Our sole motive is to serve the public and complete the work we initiated," President Soli said.
