President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih pledged to develop an airport and a picnic island in Haa Alif atoll Dhiddhoo by carrying out land reclamation in the area.

During his campaign trip to Haa Alif atoll, President Solih said that the land reclamation project in Dhiddhoo is scheduled to commence next month.

"When the Dhiddhoo land reclamation project is completed, this island will have an airport as well. The picnic island that the people of Dhiddhoo want will be attainable in the near future," President Solih said.

The President highlighted that land reclamation projects have been successfully completed in 12 islands, while the process is still ongoing in 13 other islands.

Former President Abdulla Yameen, who is currently serving an 11-year prison sentence, had pledged in October 2022 to build an airport in Dhiddhoo.

The closest airport to Dhiddhoo is located ten miles away in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Hanimaadhoo.
