The Democrats have officially launched their presidential campaign efforts and have started traveling to the islands to work on formulating their campaign manifesto.
The newly formed political party announced 'Faseyha Viyavaari' which means Easy Business as part of their manifesto across the Maldives on Tuesday evening, July 18. The party, along with its council and general members, organized rallies in 36 islands on that day.
Despite launching its campaign efforts, The Democrats have not yet officially announced their presidential candidate for the elections scheduled on September 9. The party's chair and West-Henveiru MP, Hassan Latheef, said on Saturday that the party would open for its primary elections within the next two days, but as of now, the process has not been initiated.
"We are planning to announce the primary elections by July 17. The elections committee will handle the duration for name submission and the election date," Latheef said.
