Government awards 200 scholarships in the field of accounting

The Ministry of Higher Education has granted 200 scholarships to develop chartered professional accountants in February of this year.

The Ministry of Higher Education has granted 200 scholarships to develop chartered professional accountants in February of this year.

The scholarships had been provided in two categories to cater to different sectors. The first category, consisting of 50 slots was targeted for the public sector, while the second category, with 152 slots, was open to individuals from all sectors.

This scholarship scheme focuses on qualifications from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).

Government will cover the following expenses of the scholarship

● registration / re-registration fee

● Annual subscription fee

● Exemption fees for those who qualify for exemptions

● Exam fees

● Membership fee (if student completes qualification within 2 years)

● Application Fee

● Book Allowance

● Tuition Fees if studying through a local college or university

● All the above expenses except tuition fees for those pursuing self study

According to the Ministry, scholarship recipients are required to complete their studies within 2 years and serve the Maldives for an additional 2 years upon certification.

This is the second round of accounting scholarships, with 173 scholarships awarded in the first round. The recipients of the first round are currently undergoing their studies.
