President Office's Spokesperson Miuvaan Mohamed said on Thursday that even if Maldivian Democratic Party's (MDP) parliamentarians that support former President Mohamed Nasheed leave MDP, it will not prove to be a challenge for President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in the presidential election.

Supporters of Nasheed within MDP, including parliamentarians and high-ranking party members, have decided to establish a new political party called "Fikurrege Dhirun," meaning "Reviving an Ideology." Initially operating as a political movement within MDP, , Nasheed himself will be joining the new party initially operated as a political movement within MDP. As a result, some members have started distancing themselves from MDP to show their support for the new movement.

Members supporting Fikuregge Dhirun have announced their intention to field a candidate in the upcoming presidential election scheduled for September. It is most likely that Nasheed will be the candidate representing the new party.

During the press conference held at the President's Office on Thursday, Miuvaan said that despite some individuals distancing themselves from the party due to dissatisfaction with its policies, President Solih remains strong.

"Despite certain individuals leaving the party for various reasons, whether it's due to internal elections or disagreements with the party's internal mechanisms, the President remains resolute. We have the support of the party, and the President's team is still intact. Therefore, these other reasons are unlikely to pose a challenge to the President," Miuvaan said.

He said the president's number one priority is to deliver on his pledges, after which the presidential campaign will be kickstarted as well.
