The Maldives and Rwanda have signed an agreement to mutually exempt visa requirements, allowing nationals of both countries to enter, exit, or transit without visas for up to 30 days, whether it is for single or multiple entries.
The Agreement on Mutual Exemption of Visa Requirements between Maldives and Rwanda was signed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid on behalf of the Maldives government and his Rwandan counterpart Vincent Biruta at a ceremony held in London.
During the discussions at the signing ceremony, Minister Shahid expressed his gratitude to the Rwandan government for their dedication to enhancing the existing bilateral relationship between the two countries. He also conveyed his hope that the signing of the visa exemption agreement will "open up new avenues for engagement and people-to-people contact" between the Maldives and Rwanda.
At the meeting, the Rwandan Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his interest in further strengthening the bilateral ties between the two countries.
Rwanda is the latest country to offer visa exemption to the Maldives. On Thursday last week, the Cambodian government also announced visa exemption for Maldivian nationals traveling to their country.
With close to 100 countries already extending on-arrival visas to Maldivian nationals, the Maldives currently has the strongest passport in the South Asian region.
