The Maldives Bureau of Statistics (MBS) will be publicizing the final results of the census conducted in late 2022, on March 30, the bureau has revealed.
The bureau conducted a nationwide census from September to November 2022 with the support of over 4,000 enumerators. The enumerators were paid MVR 500 for each day of their work, with an average work duration between seven to 11 days.
MBS revealed it will be publicising the final results from three areas, which include:
1. Population:
- Local Population
- Expatriate Population
- Gender and Demographics
2. Residences
- Average number of occupants per residence
3. Listed avenues in the census (buildings, worksites, accommodation blocks, flats, apartments, and labor quarters)
The bureau also said that the data will reflect each residential island individually and that it will announce the dates for in-depth results later. MBS said that the data that was collected during the census is still being verified and coded.
The data published by the bureau in October 2022 revealed a population of over 97,000 expatriates.
Unofficial statistics claim the current population of the Maldives is 521,457.
