President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Monday constituted the National Job Center, under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Economic Development.

According to the President’s Office, the President established the new authority under the discretion vested in him by Section 116 (a) of the Constitution.

The mandates of the National Job Center include:

- Bringing together employers and job seekers

- Finding employment opportunities for persons with disabilities as well as people who require social protection

- Providing information and insight on employment opportunities available for the working-age population

- Providing information on skill development and directing the working-age population to training facilities that are relevant to their preferred fields

- Conducting studies of the labour market and providing recommendations to relevant authorities

- Ensuring sustainable enforcement of employment policies

- Expanding employment services by forming partnerships with the private sector

The economic ministry already has a venture called the Job Center; however, this is mostly an online job-matching platform designed to consolidate job listing information.
