Maldives Police Service on Wednesday summoned the attorney Ahmed Nazim Abdul Sattar, the younger brother of Former President Mohamed Nasheed, on allegations of spreading false information about First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim at state institutions.
The allegations state that Nazim provided false information to official institutions saying that First Lady Fathimath had brought in a large sum of money from Singapore. He is accused of giving false reports on the matter to law enforcement institutions and spreading misinformation via social media that could incite discord among the public.
Police confirmed that they have taken Nazim’s statement on the matter.
Meanwhile, Police also summoned social media activist Shamoon “Lucas” Jaleel last week and confiscated his phone for three months while another social media activist, Thoyyib Shaheem, has been arrested.
