The government on Thursday released the promotional video for Kudagiri picnic island in Kaafu atoll, revealing a glimpse into the island developed especially for the residents of Malé region.

The Housing Development Corporation Ltd (HDC), which oversaw the island's development, said that the work on the island is now complete and that it is ready to be opened to the public.

The video showed the island's many recreation areas and the range of enjoyable activities available there.

The island could be used for weddings, parties, and other occasions, including corporate events. Additionally, there will also be water sports and diving setups on Kudagiri picnic island.

Other facilities on the island include:

- Changing rooms

- Mosque

- Clinic

- Convenience store

- Retail store

- Café

- Volleyball court

- Basketball court

- A mini-outdoor football court

- A children’s playground

There are also 12 rooms for day use, 13 small bungalows, and four large bungalows for visitors. To ensure seamless operations, Fenaka Corporation installed a generator on the island. There is also an administrative office and security posts around the island.

The project deadline had to be delayed a few times because the development of the island took longer than expected.

The land reclamation for the project for the island was carried out by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), while the rest of the facilities are being developed jointly by five state-owned enterprises under Corporate Social Responsibility, according to the President's Office.

The development of a picnic island especially for Malé area residents was a presidential pledge after Kuda Bandos, which Malé residents previously used, was converted into a resort.

Tickets for Kudagiri will be available from Malé and Hulhumalé.
