The Maldives government broke ground on the housing flats developed in Gaafu Alifu atoll Vilingili on Tuesday, January 17.
The State Minister of the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, Akram Kamaluddin, VIlingili MP Saud Hussain, and council members officiated the project.
The design and build of 50 housing flats spanning 700 square feet were contracted to Dhonbyez Private Limited earlier in June 2022. The government will spend MVR 48 million from its Public Sector Investment Program (PSIP) budget on the project.
The flats will have three bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms in each room, a dining room and kitchen, laundry, storage, and a balcony in each apartment. The flats will be developed in row houses elevated to two stories.
The contractor is additionally tasked with developing a parking zone and a park neighbouring the row house flats.
