Former President Abdulla Yameen is more capable than President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the Maldives Democratic Party (MDP)'s primary contestant and the party's president, Mohamed Nasheed said today.
The former president and Parliament Speaker Nasheed praised Yameen at a press conference this afternoon. Nasheed said Yameen was “educated and knowledgeable” and the only difference of opinion with him was the opposition's "India Out" campaign.
"President Yameen is an intellectual. He is an academic. He has an awareness and a vision. I don't think he is that different," Nasheed said.
Nasheed said that he cannot say the same about the current president.
On the opposition's "India Out" movement, Nasheed said he had repeatedly called Yameen and asked him to give more thought into abandoning the movement.
He said he had no anger against the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and Yameen. Nasheed said that during his campaign trail for the upcoming MDP primary, he was warmly received by PPM members.
At today's press conference, Nasheed criticised the work of Solih's government. Nasheed said that at the end of five years, many of the projects of this administration are still unfinished because incompetent people are running the country.
