A woman being treated for flu in Baa atoll Eydhafushi island’s hospital died at dawn on Thursday.

Fathimath Najma Moosa, 59, was admitted at Eydhafushi Hospital on Wednesday. Mihaaru understands that she suffered from respiratory problems.

It remains unclear what caused her death or whether she had tested positive for swine flu which is currently spreading across the Maldives.

Amidst the epidemic of flu across the archipelago, there have been over 80 cases of people testing positive for swine flu, according to the Health Protection Agency (HPA)'s latest statistics on Wednesday.

Two people have died of swine flu while receiving treatment at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) so far; a woman who passed away late Wednesday and a man earlier this month.
