Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) operated on a pregnant woman, who was in serious condition with swine flu, to remove her baby with a C-Section late Tuesday.

According to an official of IGMH, the baby was removed due to the mother’s worsening condition after contracting the swine flu that is currently spreading across the Maldives. She was brought to IGMH in capital Male from Haa Dhaal atoll Kulhudhuffushi island.

The hospital reported early Wednesday that both the mother and child are still in poor health. The woman is currently on the ventilator while the baby is in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

Mihaaru understands that the woman had been five months pregnant.

Authorities said that the woman is currently the patient in worst condition from the swine flu epidemic in the Maldives.
