Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) has urged its members to retain with the party.

One of the youngest political parties in the Maldives, formed by the former president Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom, made the request to encourage members from leaving the party to take part in internal elections of other political parties. The party has noted on recent membership revocations.

MRM further informs the party did not endorse temporary membership terminations, or 'walk outs' to partake in the internal political affairs of other parties.

Party crossing is a known practice among general members of parties, who temporarily shift parties to engage in various political matters that further their lobbying motives. Meanwhile, several instances of uninformed party shifts have occurred whereby members belonging to one party have their credentials registered to a different one.

Members appear to be crossing parties amid the upcoming by-elections of both Maldives National Party (MNP) and Jumhooree Party (JP), with the former's congress slated for the upcoming week while the latter's congress is expected sometime in December 2022.

MRM, founded in November 20, 2019 currently reports a total membership of 3,155.
