The Criminal Court of Maldives on Wednesday ordered a 25-year jail sentence each for two individuals from GA. Kanduhulhudhoo on rape conviction.
The convicts, the grandfather and great-grandfather of a two-year old child; the victim were apprehended in 2020 after the rape charges were brought to the attention of local authorities.
Both the grandfather and great-grandfather were guilty on the account of sexual abuse on a minor.
Trial proceedings of the rape trial of the now convicted perpetrators moved discreetly, barring public attendance.
The court's order dictates deducting the remand duration from the sentence of each of the perpetrators.
