State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) will be taking over the waste management operation of Kaafu atoll Maafushi.
The agreement for this was signed on Wednesday, June 22, at the main headquarters of STELCO.
While the ceremony was graced by the utility provider's Managing Director Mr. Ahmed Shareef, the company's General Manager Mr. Ahmed Shafeeu signed the agreement on behalf of STELCO.
On the other hand, Mr. Hussain Salaah, the president of Maafushi Council signed the agreement on behalf of the local tourism centric island.
As per the particulars of the contract, STELCO will develop a contemporary waste disposal site at the island with capabilities of segregating waste into biodegradable and non-biodegradable categories.
In addition to this, STELCO will facilitate removal of non-biodegradable waste materials off site.
