A Bangladeshi man hit by a coconut palm died in Landhoo of Noonu atoll on Monday.
According to the police, the incident occurred when uprooted palm trees were being loaded to a landing craft on the island’s harbour.
The accident had been reported to the police around 4:15 p.m. The 53 year old man was killed by the accident on the spot and later his body was taken to the health center.
A witness had told Mihaaru news that the Bangladeshi man was hit by the end of the coconut palm, where the root meets the trunk. They said he fell on his face and had passed away with the fall.
They said they took the man back up immediately after he fell but he was alive then.
The coconut palms were being transported to Siyam World, a resort in Noonu atoll. They were 100 coconut palms removed from the land plots recently handed over.
Police said they were investigating the case further.
