Island Aviation revealed that the national airline of Maldives, Maldivian, will resume flights to Ratmalana Airport in Sri Lanka when the situation in the country improves.

During March, Maldivian had announced that it will resume operations to Sri Lanka in April. Island Aviation, which operates Maldivian, has announced that it will not resume operations to Rathmalana International Airport as previously mentioned as the situation is Sri Lanka has worsened.

The airline has decided to suspend flights to Sri Lanka indefinitely. They said they were monitoring the market and situation in the country and will announce a day for possible resumption of flights if a favourable change is noted.

Due to fallen demand for trips to Sri lanka, Maldivian had suspended operations to Ratmalana Airport on March 31, less than a week since flights were resumed.

A grand ceremony was held at Rathmalana Airport to commence flights of Maldivian. The ceremony resulted in a loss of 6 million rupees (USD 20,000) for the Sri Lankan government which made headlines in the country.
