An Indian navy vessel has berthed in the Maldives to commence a joint hydrographic survey with the island nation's government.

The survey aimed at identifying the seabed of the Maldivian ocean inclusive of reefs and deeper oceanic areas will commence on 21st April and last until 15th May 2022.

Moreover, the navy vessel will be utilized to assess the ocean region from Haa Dhaal to Shaviyani atolls.

Meanwhile, Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) affirmed that the Maldives Coast Guard Commander Colonel Ibrahim Hilmy was met with the survey team of the vessel for discussions.

The Coast Guard Commander was flanked by National Counter Terrorism Center's Director General Zakariya Mansoor along with the top brass of the Coast Guard.

The survey which initiated first in 2007 in association with the National Hydrographic Office of India is utilized in the creation of navigational, GPS, and axis charts as well as their updating.

Furthermore, these help in enhancing the safety of ocean navigation and the lives of seamen and crew on sea.

To assist in the efforts, Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had created a "Maldives Hydrographic Service" office on 19th January 2022.
