Maldives-India execute multiple HICDPs

Maldives and India have executed multiple memorandum of understandings for High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs) that will be implemented under the grant assistance from India.

The MoUs were signed at a special ceremony held on Monday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs between Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Abdulla Shahid and the High Commissioner of India to the Maldives Mr. Munu Mahawar.

It was reported that the projects launched under the MoUs signed on Monday are worth MVR26.8 million (equivalent to USD1.7 million). The projects under the grant scheme include;

- Establishing a mental health center at Addu Equatorial Hospital

- Establishing a speech therapy unit in Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital

- Development of a prosthetics and orthotics manufacturing workshop in Hulhumale' Hospital

- Preservation of cultural places in N. Landhoo and Th. Dhiyamigili

- Development of multi sports complex in N. Manadhoo

- Development of youth centers in A.Dh. Dhigurah and G.A. Gemanafushi

The projects were initially announced during the official visit of India's External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, to the Maldives.

Moreover, the initial grant assistance for HICDPs was signed between the two governments on 17th March 2019 for a grant total of MVR85 million, and on 23rd July 2021, the scheme was extended up to MVR155 million.
