According to the most recent update from the Ministry of Tourism, the annual total of tourist arrivals to the Maldives has reached 427,677 as of 30th March 2022.
The ministry had noted that the tourist arrivals to the island nation observed an annual increment of 44.7 percent when compared with the corresponding period in 2021.
The annual total of tourist arrivals for the same period in 2021 stood at 295,479.
Meanwhile, the total number of tourist arrivals from 01st to 30th March stood at 146,905, whereas for the same period in 2021 the total number of tourist arrivals reached 77,769.
Russia has maintained top source market position with 52,081 arrivals so far in 2022 which is 12.2 percent of the market share.
However, it will not be long before the United Kingdom may dethrone Russia from the top spot. As of 30th March, the annual total of tourist arrivals from the UK reached 49,555 which is 11.6 percent of the market share.
India, on the other hand, remained in third spot with an arrival total of 46,154 in annual terms which is 10.8 percent of the market share.
Germany remained consistent, in fourth spot with 31,724 arrivals while Italy is still the fifth strongest source market to the island nation with 29,879 arrivals so far.
Moreover, Ukraine has slipped out of the top ten source market list since the previously reviewed tourist arrival update. The country has been replaced by Austria in the tenth spot with 9,028 arrivals so far.
