Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said that the government has initiated efforts to ensure reduced blowback from the Russia-Ukraine war.

In his public address, the island nation's President affirmed that the government has facilitated repatriation eases for Maldivians living closer to conflict-zones in neighboring countries to both Russia and Ukraine.

Moreover, President Solih confirmed commitment to ensure the local students, who were forced to fly back from Ukraine, receive continuation of their academic courses.

"Ministry of Foreign Affairs is collaborating with Ministry of Higher Education to make this a possibility," President Solih claimed.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Finance had prepared a worst-case scenario projection, on which the state has commenced acting to assure reduced impact from the ripple effect on the global economy.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Tourism has commenced analyzing and researching newer tourist source markets in light of the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.

The state took the step to guarantee stronger tourist arrival numbers to the island nation from alternative or potential markets since both Russia and Ukraine happen to be among the top ten source markets with heavy tourist arrivals to the Maldives every year.

The Maldives was among the 141 nations that condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine, at the general assembly of United Nations held on 02nd March 2022.

Furthermore, President Solih reiterated the island nation's political stance and foreign policy noting that the island nation acknowledges and respects the sovereignty and freedom of every sovereign state.
