Kuwait Fund to provide loans for Thinadhoo Hospital

Health Minister Ahmed Naseem reveled on Wednesday that Kuwait Fund will be providing the loan to develop a tertiary hospital in Thinadhoo of Gaafu Dhaalu atoll.

This statement was made when Parliament Member for North Thinadhoo constituency, Abdul Mughunee asked why the developing of a tertiary hospital was being delayed despite the fact it was included in the yearly budget of the past two years.

Answering the questions while in the parliament, Naseem said that loans have now been provided from Kuwait fund to develop the hospital in Thinadhoo. He said that a company has been contracted to design the hospital building.

"tender announcement will be made in the second quarter for parties interested in developing the hospital," Naseem said,

Naseem additionally said it would take approximately two years to develop the hospital once the project starts, so they were currently working to upgrade Dr. Abdul Samad Hospital in Thinadhoo.

The upgrades made to the hospital include building a a new 14-room OPD area, four private rooms, two labor suites and an NICU at the hospital. He said around 95 percent of the project has been completed and that MVR 33.5 million will be spent from the state budget.

This administration promised to develop tertiary hospitals in five areas of Maldives.
