Maldives wins World’s Leading Destination Title on Thursday.

World Travel Awards (WTA) made the announcement in a virtual ceremony.

The award is a testament to the effort Maldives put in to promote tourism, especially last year when travel was at an all time low due to the pandemic. Maldives’ promotions heavily highlighted it’s geographical isolation and how this would lead to a safe destination for tourists.

In addition to the Leading Destination, Maldives also won Indian Ocean’s Leading Destination 2021, Indian Ocean’s Leading Beach Destination, Indian Ocean’s Leading Dive Destination 2021, Indian Ocean’s Leading Tourist Board 2021 on that evening.

Maldives has also won the famed Indian Ocean’s Leading Destination award 14 times within the last 18 years.
