Maldives Meteorology Service (MET) has cautioned safe travel for the next three days due to strong winds and rough seas.

MET said that there were two low-pressure systems in the Arabian Sea and and in the Bay of Bengal, which may cause winds to strengthen over Maldives over the next three days.

They have especially cautioned sea travel during this period.

MET cautions sea travel over the next three days

Thursday, November 11, is Maldives' Republic Day, and as such a public holiday. As the weekend follows Republic Day, it is estimated local travel would increase over the three day weekend. MET advices all travellers to ensure they travel mindful of the weather conditions.

Safe sea travel has been an issue in Maldives, with lifeguards being mandatory on small vessels and in certain weather conditions on October 31. Earlier in October, a tragic marine accident lead to the death of a woman and one of her children to go missing.
