Maldives welcomed one millionth tourist of 2021

Vincent Victor Corentim Vitau and his wife Anna Vitau consider it an absolute “necessity” to holiday in Maldives at least once a year. Their trip to Maldives this year will be an unforgettable one; Vincent received a heartwarming welcome to Maldives on Friday as he happened to be the one millionth tourist to the Maldives in 2021.

A ceremony was held to celebrate the one millionth visitor in Velana International Airport. The holidaying couple was greeted and welcomed by officials from the Tourism Ministry, Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), Maldives Airports Company (MACL), Maldives Immigration, and Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI).

A team from Maldives National University (MNU)’s Student Board welcomed the couple with one of Maldives’ traditional arts, a bodu beru dance.

Vinceent Vitau was gifted a holiday by Villa Hotels and Resorts while the several industry partners welcome the couple with gifts.

He told Mihaaru news that the couple keep visiting Maldives because of the love they hold for the nation. He and his wife are avid divers and they have found Maldives is the best for the activity.

The couple first visited Maldives in 2003, and fell in love with Maldives, its people and culture. According to Vincent Vitau, they had provided Maldives with aid after the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake.

Their stay is in Club Med Resort this trip, where they will be staying for 11 days. They plan to revisit Maldives in February 2022 as well.

Maldives had estimated the country would receive at least one million tourists when the year began. They have updated the estimate to 1.2 million tourists now.
