Fear and menace wiped out from Maldives, says Pres

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom stated in his Presidential Address early Monday that fear and menace have been eliminated while peace and harmony have been sustained in the country.

At the first sitting of this year’s parliament sessions, President Yameen proclaimed that it is an important pledge of the government to create a safe environment by promoting peace and harmony.

“Within three years, we have eliminated the fear and menace that the Maldives has witnessed so far.”

He added that according to the results of the study on the criminal environment of the country, which was initiated by the President's Office and Maldives National University in 2014, the criminal records have fallen significantly.

President Yameen also announced that a new project will be conducted over the coming months to strengthen the spirit and faith of Islam among students and youth.

Noting that last year perceived the greatest amount of developmental projects in the nation, the president stated that 1,500 flats have been developed in Gaafu Alif atoll Villingili island, Gaafu Dhaal atoll Thinadhoo island, Fuvahmulah island and Addu atoll.

Another project to develop 600 housing units is to commence in Shaviyani atoll Komandoo island, Raa atoll Maduvvari island, Baa atoll Eydhafushi island, the islands of Hinnavaru and Naifaru in Lhaviyani atoll, the islands of Meedhoo and Kudahuvadho in Dhaal atoll and in Addu atoll.

He also highlighted that the land reclamation projects of four islands have now been completed while reclamation of three more islands will begin this year.
