Remand extended for tourist brought under police custody when bullets were found in his baggage as he was trying to depart Maldives via Velana International Airport (VIA) on Saturday.

Police has said the case of the 60 year old Namibian trying to smuggle bullets out of Maldives was reported to them on 9:52 am on Saturday. When he was produced befor Criminal Court on Sunday and the judge decided to extend the remand by three days.

Police has also said it is still not clear how he obtained the bullets, whether he brought them to Maldives when he entered or whether he obtained them while he was here.

As this is an ongoing investigation police has not disclosed further information.
