Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced the 214th COVID-19 fatality in Maldives.
The agency said a 59 year old Maldivian woman admitted in Shaviyani COVID Management Facility passed away in the early hours of Sunday.
This is the third COVID fatality in the month of July. Previously, HPA had announced the death of a 70 year old man and a 81 year old woman on the first day of the month.
The number of COVID deaths in Maldives has now decreased, after two months where COVID patients passed away at an alarming rate. May saw 88 deaths while 50 people passed away in June. To control the surge in COVID-19 cases that had overwhelmed the healthcare system, Greater Male' Area was put under lockdown on May 26 with additional travel restrictions as well. The restrictions placed in Male' Area was loosened over time and completely lifted on July 6.
There has been over 74,993 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Maldives so far, while the number of active cases as of Saturday are 2,650. While 318,142 people have received one dose of the COVID vaccine, 220,950 people have received both doses.
