Foreign Minister of Maldives Abdulla Shahid stated on Monday that his first priority as newly elected President of the United Nation's General Assembly (PGA) will be to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Addressing the assembly as the President-Elect of the 76th General Assembly, Minister Shahid noted they were approaching the new session amidst a time when injustice, inequality, and instability have increased globally. He stated that while his key areas of focus would be on rebuilding communities, recovering economies and rescuing the planet, his number one priority at the moment was to fight and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
