The remand duration has been extended for the three people arrested in connection to the attack on Former President and Majilis Speaker Mohamed Nasheed.
The attempted assassination of Mohamed Nasheed on May 6 injured four other people in addition to him. An IED attached to a motorcycle outside Nasheed's residence exploded as he was about to get into his car. He was to leave Male' to attend a ceremony in another island.
Adhuham Ahmed Rasheed from Hiyaa, Vaavu Thinadhoo, Mujaaj Ahmed from MA. Feyruge, Male' were arrested in addition to Thahumeen Ahmed, from Folheymaa, Gaafu Alifu Kondey. Thahumeen is the owner of the motorcycle with the attached IED.
Their remand had been increased by 15 days previously as well. However their remand has been extended by another 15 days.
As all three of them are COVID-19 positive, the decision was made about their remand was made by the Criminal Court in absentia.
Nasheed went to Germany on May 13 to get further treatment for injuries sustained on the terror attack. He was released from the hospital in May 21. He has to get check ups twice a week for a month.
