Political leaders of Maldives condemned the explosion that took place near Majilis Speaker and Former President Mohamed Nasheed's home, that has lead to him getting treatment in ADK.
Two other people, including one of Nasheed's bodyguards, were injured during this explosion that took place on Thursday evening.
Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and Former President Mohamed Waheed has both condemned this attack.
"I condemn in the strongest terms all acts of violence," Maumoon said via Twitter.
"The propagation of hate in Maldivian politics must end and we must find ways to unite and work together, rather than divide," Waheed, said, while expressing that his thoughts are with Nasheed, the others that got injured, and their families.
Meanwhile, opposition coalition PPM and PNC also have condemned the attack in a press release. They called on all the relevant authorities to conduct a speedy investigation, and to bring the perpetuators to justice.
Jumhooree Party's spokesperson Ali Salih has said in a statement to the media, that Jumhooree Party, and the Party Leader Qasim Ibrahim condemns this act of violence.
Police and MNDF were active on scene. Police urged the public to not gather in the area. MNDF has said they have increased the the alert status and have strengthened their security as well.
