Maldives United Opposition has appointed capital Male's Deputy Mayor and Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s Youth wing President Shifa Mohamed as the Deputy Leader of MUO.

Shifa, who had served as the Minister of Education during Former President Mohamed Nasheed’s administration, is appointed to the post following the resignation of Ali Waheed, who is currently self-exiled in the United Kingdom. He also resigned as the chairperson of main opposition MDP last November, saying that the position should belong to a person residing in Maldives.

MUO was formed by the self-exiled Former President Mohamed Nasheed, Former Vice President Mohamed Jameel together with the jailed former Minister of Defence Mohamed Nazim and jailed former Vice President Ahmed Adheeb.

The leader of MUO is Mohamed Jameel Ahmed, the first Vice President of incumbent President Yameen’s government.
