Maldives Police Service, on Saturday, confirmed that two suspects were arrested over vandalising the car of the only female taxi driver in Malé City.

According to Aiminath Hassan, her car was vandalised on October 26, while it was parked on Izzudeen Magu near Thoibaa Mosque, close to her residence.

Police stated that a 26-year-old local male was arrested on November 5 over the incident, after which he was remanded twice, for a five-day period on each occasion.

In addition, police arrested a 28-year-old Maldivian man on Friday night, who has now been remanded for five days.

Aiminath stated that this was the fifth time her vehicle was damaged, but no action had been taken over the matter, despite reporting the acts to relevant authorities, including lodging a complaint at the Parliament over the inaction over the cases.

The driver accused her husband of perpetrating the damages to her vehicle, adding that he had formerly vandalised the car on multiple occasions.

She further stated that she has to spend approximately MVR 10,000 to fix the damages after every vandalism act, which interferes with her livelihood and income generation.

The last time the car was damaged, Minister of Youth Ahmed Mahloof paid for the repairs.
