The Presidential Committee Investigating Public Housing Schemes, on Wednesday, published the temporary list of recipients for category H6 under the Hiyaa Public Housing Scheme, which is allocated for single parents.

Published on the national gazette, the temporary list includes re-evaluated points as well as the committee’s basis for disqualifying some applicants that were found to be ineligible for public housing.

The list also mentioned the details of applicants that the committee was unable to contact in order to conduct a physical evaluation of current living conditions.

As per the Presidential Committee Investigating Public Housing Schemes, candidates that have secured slots under any other state sponsored social housing scheme will be disqualified. Furthermore, in the event that both parents are eligible and included under the temporary list for the H6 category, the housing unit will be awarded to the parent with custody of the child or children.

Any individual that wishes to dispute the list may submit their complaints via the official 'Hiyaa Complaints Portal' at hcp.presidency.gov.mv before the deadline of 1500 hrs on November 16.

The President's Office assured that the finalised lists for the H6 category would be compiled with consideration to the complaints.

The committee has already publicised the temporary lists for housing categories allotted for doctors and nurses (H4), teachers (H5), residents of capital Male' (H8), long-time residents of Male' that are not registered in or own property in the capital city (H9), and persons with disabilities and their families (H10).

Initiated during the government of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, the Hiyaa Project comprises the development of 7,000 flats, in the form of 16 towers of 25-storeys each, in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale's second phase.

Although the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) administration had issued a list of recipients, allegations of corruption and unjust distribution prompted the current government to form a committee to probe the issue, further delaying the handover.

Over 25,000 people were reported to have initially applied to purchase flats from the Hiyaa project.
