Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof provided financial assistance to repair the car driven by capital city Male's only female taxi driver Aminath Waheed.

Aminath's car was severely vandalised on October 26 while it was parked on Izzuddin Magu in the vicinity of the Drug Court. The incident marked the fifth time that her taxi vehicle was purposefully damaged.

Expressing gratitude towards Minister Mahloof, the single mother noted that she would have had no other way to repair the taxi and restart earning an income to support her family without the minister's assistance.

According to the taxi driver, she spent between MVR 11,000 and 14,000 to repair the vehicle after previous incidents of vandalism.

Furthermore, Aminath disclosed that CCTV cameras in the area had captured the unknown vandal as he approached and attacked the car. Expressing concern that authorities had previously failed to identify and penalise the vandals, Aminath requested the police to take action concerning the latest incident in light of the evidence collected.

Since 2017, when she started being active in the occupation, Aminath is known to be Male's only female taxi driver to operate in relation to taxi centres.
