President Solih appoints new envoys to India, Pakistan, UAE

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Wednesday appointed Dr Hussain Niyaz and Farzana Zahir as the Maldivian High Commissioners to India and Pakistan respectively, and Aminath Shabeena as the Maldivian Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

He presented the new envoys with their Letters of Appointment during the accreditation ceremony held at the President’s Office.

The new High Commissioner to India, Hussain Niyaz, was previously the Ambassador to the UAE. He was the Permanent Representative to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and had also served in various capacities at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Hussain Niyaz holds a PhD on Demography and Development from The University of Waikato in Hamilton, New Zealand.

The High Commissioner to Pakistan, Farzana Zahir, formerly served as the Joint Secretary for India and SAARC Division at the foreign ministry, where she had also a number of other positions.

Farzana Zahir holds a Master’s Degree in Development Studies from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand.

The new Ambassador to the UAE, Aminath Shabeena, was the Joint Secretary at the foreign ministry till her latest appointment. She had also served at the ministry in various other capacities.

Aminath Shabeena holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of the West of England, Bristol, UK, which she completed at Villa College in Maldives' capital Male'.
