President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Wednesday, ratified the third amendment to the Prosecutor General’s Act (Act No. 9/2008).
Approved by the parliament on August 31, the amendment grants a higher level of independence to the Prosecutor General while listing conditions the incumbent must follow during the performance of duties.
Additional requirements are set concerning engagement in business or other activities that may compromise the quality of work or ethical standards of the PG Office.
The amendment also mandates the Prosecutor General to submit his or her asset declaration form.
Furthermore, all employees of the Prosecutor General's Office can be held legally accountable for failure to comply with ethical principles or observe due diligence, as per the new amendment.
Changes to the Prosecutor General’s Act as per the new amendment were published on the national gazette following ratification.
