The participants selected for the SDG Global Leadership Programme for the Japanese Fiscal year 2020, Ahmed Falah and Aminath Fizna from Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), paid a courtesy call on Ambassador of Japan to Maldives Keiko Yanai on Wednesday.
The SDG Global Leadership Programme was offered by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Maldives last year and will continue until 2023.
This programme provides participants the opportunity to contribute to the socio-economic development of respective countries by offering them Japanese development experiences as well as a degree programme in a top Japanese university.
In addition, the programme aims to strengthen strategic partnership between partner countries and Japan.
Participants for the programme are selected from public service officials, academic researchers and other relevant individuals who are expected to engage in policy formulation and its implementation.
Since the early 1970s, JICA has been cooperating short-term programmes with the Maldivian government.
Till date, over 1,100 participants have been trained in Japan in different areas such as Fisheries, Telecommunications, Education, Health, Environment, Governance, Gender Mainstreaming, Tourism and Maritime Security, amongst others.
