The parliament on Sunday approved to appoint Mohamed Nasih and Ibrahim Rasheed as the president and vice president, respectively, of the Civil Service Commission (CSC).

Nasih, who was the former secretary general at the Maldives Broadcasting Commission, was nominated by parliamentary representative for capital Male's Henveiru North constituency, MP Hussain Shameem, of ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

Nasih and Rasheed were the only nominations for their respective positions. They were both unanimously approved by the 68 lawmakers present at the sitting.

Nasih and Rasheed were among the four new members of CSC who were sworn in last Thursday.

In addition to them, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih also appointed Mohamed Farushath and Fathimath Shareef to the commission.

The four slots on the CSC were vacated after the parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions voted on June 29 to dismiss the then-members of the commission except Fathimath Amira.

In the wake of this decision, then-president of CSC Dr Ali Shameem, the vice president Shaheed Mohamed and member Zakariyya Hussain tendered their resignations. Member Ibrahim Shaheeq was dismissed via a parliament vote in July.
